Better Speech and Hearing - Communication for All

Did you know?

Communication disorders are among the most common childhood disabilities nationwide, with 11% of children ages 3–6 having a speech, language, voice, or swallowing disorder—and almost 15% of school-age children experiencing some degree of hearing loss. These disorders are treatable and, in some cases, can be reversed or even prevented with the help of a pediatric speech-language pathologist.

Swallowing disorders affect 300,000–600,000 people yearly in the United States. Also called dysphagia, swallowing disorders can affect a person’s ability to eat, drink, and take medicine. Treated by speech-language pathologists, swallowing disorders can be a common complication from stroke, Parkinson’s, and other medical conditions in adults.

At PVHMC, our Speech-Language Pathologists provide services that include treatment for:

  • Swallowing Dysfunction
  • Cognitive Retraining
  • Speech-Language Delays/Disorders
  • Augmentative Communication
  • Voice Disorders
  • Video Fluoroscopy Swallow Study-Radiology

Pediatric outpatient speech and language therapy is offered at our Milestones Center for Child Development. Milestones is a state of the art, pediatric clinic that serves children from birth to 18 years of age focusing on early intervention and acute care developmental rehabilitation.

Adult outpatient speech and language therapy is provided at PVHMC in Rehabilitation Services on the first floor of the Robert and Beverly Lewis Outpatient Pavilion.

In addition to outpatient services, our Speech-Language Pathologists also treat neonates, premature infants, children, and adults on the inpatient floors of PVHMC.

Thank you to our entire Speech-Language Pathology Team for the exceptional care they provide to their patients each and every day!
