President's Circle Honoree: Dr. Rama Thumati

Oftentimes, the legacy of one person touches the hearts of an entire community, and this is true for our very own Dr. Rama Thumati. His legacy at our Hospital has touched the lives of our patients, inspired the paths of our nurses and physicians, and paved the way for a now nationally-recognized cardiovascular program that provides exceptional medicine.

Dr. Thumati began his journey here in 1981 as a cardiologist and just five years later became the Medical Director of Cardiac Services of our Stead Heart Center. Over the next 36 years, he played a critical role in bringing nationally-recognized interventional cardiovascular services right here to PVHMC and closer to home for our patients.

From our designations as a STEMI (heart attack)-receiving center and an American College of Cardiology Chest Pain Center, to being a repeat recipient of the American Heart Association’s “Get with the Guidelines” Gold Plus Achievement Award, to our recognition as being among Healthgrades’ top ten percent of hospitals in the nation for cardiac surgery, Dr. Thumati has guided us through it all.

He has always been a champion for progress at PVHMC.

He is much more than a leader in clinical excellence, though. He is passionate about his patients and their families, a dedicated mentor and colleague and beloved by the community he humbly served.

Dr. Ken Brown, a retired internist and cardiologist and the pioneer of our heart program, shared these kind words about him:

“Dr. Thumati has been, without a doubt, the best physician I have ever seen. He cares about his patients; he cares about the heart center; he’s always trying to have us do better.”

His dedication and commitment to improving cardiovascular care has truly shaped the Stead Heart and Vascular Center at PVHMC. His legacy has prepared our next generation of skilled, experienced Physicians and Associates for a future brimming with technological innovations and superior care.

Dr. Thumati is the embodiment of our mission, our vision, and our values. We will be forever grateful for his nearly four decades of service to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center. His legacy is indeed one that will be remembered and felt for years to come.
