PVHMC Named Among Best Regional Hospitals for Equitable Healthcare

Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center (PVHMC) has earned its first designation as a Best Regional Hospital for Equitable Healthcare in a ranking by U.S. News & World Report for 2024-25. The Hospital is one of only 98 hospitals in the nation to earn this recognition. This year’s ranking, compared to previous years, used new criteria to measure hospital performance in serving disadvantaged communities.

The new criteria uses an “Area Deprivation Index” to weigh socioeconomic challenges. U.S. News and World Report evaluated each hospital’s performance based upon a significant amount of patients coming from ethnic minority groups, a sizable number of patients with Medicaid coverage and a high percentage of patients from communities with socioeconomic challenges.

“This recognition makes it clear that PVHMC is committed to its mission and vision of providing our community with equitable healthcare,” said Richard E. Yochum, FACHE, PVHMC President/CEO. “With a focus on access to the highest quality treatment available, our community can count on the expert team of Associates at our hospital to offer the best possible outcomes for their health.”

The Hospital also earned “High Performing” ratings for excellence in seven adult specialties, procedures and conditions:

· Heart attack

· Heart failure

· Diabetes

· Kidney failure

· Stroke

· Urology

· Hip fractures

“A hospital can both excel in overall quality of care and also provide a substantial amount of that exceptional care to historically underserved communities,” said Ben Harder, chief of health analysis and managing editor at U.S. News. “Recognizing community hospitals that lead in this respect is a modest but necessary step toward ensuring everyone in the U.S. has access to high-quality medical care.”
