Stead Heart & Vascular Center Receives National Recognition for Providing High Quality Cardiovascular Care

Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center (PVHMC) has received two gold level American Heart Association/American Stroke Association Get With The Guidelines® achievement awards for demonstrating commitment to following up-to-date, research-based guidelines for the treatment of heart disease, diabetes, and stroke, ultimately leading to more lives saved, shorter recovery times and fewer readmissions to the hospital.

This year, PVHMC received:

Heart Failure Gold Plus Award

  • Target: Heart Failure Honor Roll, 14th year in a row
  • Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll, 3rd year in a row

Stroke Gold Plus Award

  • Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite Plus, 8th year in a row
  • Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll

Every 40 seconds, someone in the U.S. has a stroke or heart attack, and heart disease and stroke are the No. 1 and No. 5 causes of death in the United States, respectively. Studies show patients can recover better when providers consistently follow treatment guidelines.

“Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center is proud to again receive the Gold Plus Honor Roll achievements for our ability to treat heart failure, stroke and diabetes care from the American Heart/Stroke Association,” says Richard E. Yochum, FACHE, President/CEO at PVHMC. “When it comes to cardiovascular emergencies, every second counts and our clinical team follows the highest standards in care to ensure our patients recover with the best outcomes.”

Get With The Guidelines® put the expertise of the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association to work for hospitals nationwide, helping ensure patient care is aligned with the latest evidence- and research-based guidelines for cardiovascular conditions. The honor roll recognition ensures patients with type two diabetes receive the most up-to-date, evidence-based care when hospitalized with these conditions. As a participant in Get With The Guidelines® programs, PVHMC qualified for the award by demonstrating how their organization has committed to improving quality care.

“We are pleased to recognize Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center for its commitment to caring for those in their community who need cardiovascular care,” said John Warner, M.D., FAHA, past president of the American Heart Association and CEO of The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. “Hospitals that follow the American Heart Association’s quality improvement protocols often see improved patient outcomes, fewer readmissions and lower mortality rates – a win for health care systems, families and communities.”
