PVHMC Recognized for Excellence with American College of Cardiology

Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center (PVHMC) has been recognized by the American College of Cardiology (ACC) for its demonstrated expertise and commitment in treating patients with chest pain. PVHMC was awarded ACC Chest Pain Center Accreditation and the National Cardiovascular Data Registry (NCDR®) Chest Pain ̶ MI Registry Silver Performance Achievement Award. The accolades were awarded in June based on rigorous onsite evaluation of the staff’s ability to evaluate, diagnose and treat patients experiencing a heart attack.

Hospitals that have earned ACC Chest Pain Center Accreditation have proven exceptional competency in treating patients with heart attack symptoms. They have streamlined their systems from admission to evaluation to diagnosis and treatment all the way through to appropriate post-discharge care and recommendations and assistance in patient lifestyle changes. PVHMC achieved the Silver Performance Achievement Award by demonstrating sustained achievement in the Chest Pain ̶ MI Registry for four consecutive quarters during 2023 and performed with distinction in specific performance measures.

The awards recognize PVHMC’s success in implementing a higher standard of care for heart attack patients and signifies that the medical center has reached an aggressive goal of treating these patients to an advanced level of care that is outlined by the American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association clinical guidelines and recommendations.

“We’re proud to receive our chest pain accreditation for the third consecutive time, as well as the Chest Pain – MI Registry Silver Performance Achievement Award,” said Debbie Keasler BSN, MS, NE-BC, Director of Cardiovascular Services. “As heart disease continues to be the leading cause of death among Americans, our expert team is committed to providing our patients with the latest, evidence-based care to prevent and treat heart attacks and ensure that they have the best possible outcomes.”

Facilities that achieve accreditation meet or exceed an array of stringent criteria and have organized a team of doctors, nurses, clinicians, and other administrative staff that earnestly support the efforts leading to better patient education and improved patient outcomes.

“ACC Accreditation Services is proud to bestow Chest Pain Center Accreditation on Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center,” said Abraham Joseph, vice president of ACC Accreditation Services. “We commend Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center for its demonstrated commitment to providing its patients with excellent cardiac care.”

In the U.S. someone experiences a heart attack every 40 seconds, which impacts 805,000 people annually, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The most common symptom of a heart attack for both men and women is chest pain or discomfort. However, women are more likely to have atypical symptoms. Other heart attack symptoms can include tingling or discomfort in one or both arms, back, shoulder, neck or jaw, shortness of breath, cold sweat, unusual tiredness, heartburn-like feeling, nausea or vomiting, sudden dizziness and fainting.
