The holiday season is right around the corner which means time with loved ones to cherish each other’s company and make lasting memories. Around this time of year millions of Americans all over will celebrate Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukah and New Years. While these holidays ensure fun and celebration, it is important to also be safe. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration explains that more drive drunk in the months surrounding the holidays than other months. With this in mind, experts at Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center encourage our community to celebrate the holidays safely.
Follow the tips below to ensure safe and enjoyable holiday celebrations:
- Have a planned ride home. Whether you plan to use Uber, Lyft, or phoning a friend to be your designated driver, any alternative is better than getting behind the wheel after drinking.
- If you are hosting people at your house, encourage guests to have their rides planned ahead of time and provide non-alcoholic beverages, too.
- Stay hydrated and eat. Drink plenty of water and make sure to eat!
There are many ways to stay healthy by protecting yourself and loved ones during this holiday season. According to the Center For Disease Control And Prevention (CDC), many different viruses such as COVID, the flu, and RSV spread most around the fall and winter seasons.
Large gatherings, crowded travel, and more time indoors can mean more viruses spreading around the holidays. The CDC encourages all to get vaccinated before the holiday season begins and to wash your hands regularly. Additionally, if you are feeling sick it is important to stay home.
Having a safe, healthy and fulfilling holiday season starts with you! By taking the necessary precautions to keep you and your family safe you are contributing to a happier and healthier season for all.
