Hospitalist Program

In-hospital services at Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center

hospitalistsIf you are in need of in-hospital services at Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center, a physician known as a “Hospitalist” may coordinate your care. Hospitalists are physicians whose primary professional focus is the general medical care of hospitalized patients. Hospitalists can adjust treatment, follow up on laboratory test more frequently, this helps prevent medical complications and enhance your quality of care, it also can shorten your hospital stay.

Your own primary care provider may request that a hospitalist be in charge of your care during your hospital stay. If that is the case, you have the benefit of being seen by a physician whose practice is entirely focused on the care of a hospitalized patient. If you did not have a primary care physician and came to the Emergency Department, a hospitalist will be involved in every aspect of your hospital stay, including;

  • Collaborating with other physician specialists, case managers, nurses and others who might be involved in your care
  • Ordering tests, medications, and treatments
  • Communicating regularly with you, your family, and your primary care physician (if you have one)

Expertise

Hospitalists, are trained in general Internal Medicine. They work solely within the hospital, caring for patients from the time they are admitted to the time they’re discharged. Unlike most other specialties, Hospitalist Medicine is organized around the site of care, not a particular organ or disease.Hospitalists work in many areas of the hospital, from the ICU and CCU to the ER and medical-surgical units. Their primary role is the direct management of inpatients.
