Hospital Quiet Hours
Quiet Hours Help Patients Heal
Quiet Hours are designated periods of time dedicated to promoting rest
and sleep. To support health and healing, PVHMC has established Quiet
Hours in all of our inpatient areas. We are making every effort to reduce
unnecessary noise and to provide resources to support sleep and rest while
under our care.
Quiet Hour Times
Overnight: 10:00 p.m. – 4:00 a.m.
Daytime: 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.
To help you get rest and sleep, PVHMC Associates will:
- Dim lights and close the room door when medically appropriate.
- Offer the patient headphones, earbuds, earplugs, sleep masks and instruction
on how to use the CARE Channel 42 on the TV.
- Lower the volume of your department phone and place spectra-link phones
on vibrate mode.
- Coordinate care to reduce unnecessary entry into the patient’s room
during quiet hours.
- Do everything we can to limit the disruption of sleep when new admissions
or room changes must occur during quiet hours.
What can patients and families do to help?
- Keep electronic devices on low ringer or vibrate mode.
- Talk quietly in person and on the phone.
- Limit phone calls in the room or hallways during these hours, when possible.
- Use headphones or earbuds when watching multimedia devices.
- Encourage the patient to limit TV during Quiet Hours, or ask an Associate
to help you turn the TV to the CARE Channel 42 for a relaxing and peaceful sound.
- Be respectful of roommates. Please help us provide restful sleep for all
patients. Use our lounges, lobbies and the cafeteria for large family
gatherings during quiet hours.
- Tell the healthcare team if noise levels in or around your loved one’s
room are too loud.
Thank you for helping to create a quiet and peaceful experience for all.
