Pharmacy Residency Programs

Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center’s Pharmacy Residency Program is committed to developing confident, competent and compassionate pharmacists with strong clinical and communication skills to care for our patients and educate future generations of healthcare professionals.

PGY1 residency programs build upon Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and outcomes to develop pharmacist practitioners with knowledge, skills, and abilities as defined in the educational competency areas, goals, and objectives. Residents who successfully complete PGY1 residency programs will be skilled in diverse patient care, practice management, leadership, and education, and be prepared to provide patient care, seek board certification in pharmacotherapy (i.e., BCPS), and pursue advanced education and training opportunities including postgraduate year two (PGY2) residencies.

PGY2 residency programs build upon Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and PGY1 pharmacy residency training to develop pharmacist practitioners with knowledge, skills, and abilities as defined in the educational competency areas, goals, and objectives for advanced practice areas. Residents who successfully complete PGY2 residency programs are prepared for advanced patient care or other specialized positions, and board certification in the advanced practice area, if available.

Our goals for our residents are excellence in clinical practice and teaching, readiness for additional post-graduate training and eligibility for board certification. At our institution, residents will gain a wealth of hands-on experience in acute care pharmacy practice ranging from emergency medicine and intensive care to various inpatient clinical specialties. In addition, the program is affiliated with Keck Graduate Institute School of Pharmacy, Western University of Health Sciences’ College of Pharmacy, University of Southern California School of Pharmacy, Loma Linda University School of Pharmacy providing the residents with a plethora of educational resources as well as valuable teaching experiences.

To attain these goals for our residents, we believe in a diversity of practice, research and teaching experiences working alongside experienced pharmacists, physicians, and other healthcare professionals.

PVHMC is committed to building a workforce through the use of equity and inclusion that reflects the diversity of the community we serve, that provides equal opportunities, and a collaborative, empowering work environment, and that is free of discrimination and harassment.
