In January 2001 Senate Bill 1368 – the Newborn Abandonment Prevention Law – was enacted whereby a parent of a newborn, less than 72 hours of age, can relinquish their baby anonymously, without fear of criminal prosecution, to an employee at any hospital emergency department within the state of California. PVHMC immediately embraced the new law in order to help save the lives of these infants.
